Health Promotion Specialist
Join our team! Central Valley Health District is seeking a creative, self-driven and enthusiastic individual to fill our new Health Promotion Specialist position. This position is responsible to work with promotion and education of public health programs to the community, as well as assisting with staff services within the organization, including WIC (Women, Infants, and Children). Duties include working with health education, assisting with grant implementation, participating in community coalition work, addressing health inequities, and developing content to portray health messages. Candidate must possess excellent community engagement skills and have experience leading/innovating through change.
Essential Duties:
- Be a public health change advocate in the community
- Communicate public health messaging to the public through various avenues and platforms (including print, digital, social media platforms, speaking engagement, etc.)
- Develop content to portray the proper messages in relation to the priorities of the District.
- Assist in coordination of current and future grant program implementation (topics may include health equity, substance use prevention, obesity prevention, physical activity promotion, etc.)
- Complete necessary reporting requirements for assigned grant programs.
- Establish project priorities and dates for completion as indicated by grant workplans.
- Research and support evidence-based strategies to address health inequities.
- Promote and educate the community about public health programs and services of the District.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with a wide variety of community members and entities (schools, law enforcement, legislators, and social service agencies) that have an interest or need to improve public health in District’s jurisdiction.
- Support and assist in the Community Health Partnership coalition to further build capacity to promote public health throughout District’s jurisdiction.
- Perform WIC Certifier duties under the direction of the WIC Director
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Licensure, Certifications, Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field including public health, nursing, health education, nutrition, dietetics, family and consumer science, marketing, communications, or health related field.
- Must possess current valid driver’s license. Travel within the District’s jurisdiction, including occasional overnight travel, may be required.
- Ability to take after-hours on-call, work longer shifts, nights, weekends to meet the operational needs as determined.
CVHD will provide:
- Current certification of basic cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- National Incident Management System (NIMS)/Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800.
