POSITION DESCRIPTION
BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SPECIALIST
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide professional counseling to clients in order to facilitate human development and adjustment throughout the lifespan; prevent, assess, evaluate, and treat mental or emotional or behavioral disorders and associated distresses that interfere with mental health; conduct assessments and evaluations to establish treatment goals and objectives; plan, implement and evaluate treatment plans using counseling treatment interventions that include counseling, assessment, consulting, referral; promote counseling services to the community at large.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assessment of client’s counseling needs.
- Establishment of client’s treatment goals and objectives.
- Development of client’s treatment plans.
- Counseling interventions directed towards facilitating the client’s meeting of counseling goals.
- Documentation of client’s assessment and progress.
- Referral of client to other sources of assistance as needed (i.e. Medicaid, CHIPS).
- Adhere to established mental health counseling protocols.
- Ensure that the client’s information is maintained in confidence, secure and intact.
- Work as a team with clinic doctors, nurses, etc. to maintain comprehensive care of clients.
- Maintain monthly report of services performed.
- Maintain State Licensure and annual Continuing Education Units.
- Seek to inform the community at large about counseling services through public speaking,
- Maintain the confidentiality, security, and physical safety of the patient medical/financial record.
- Maintain positive and professional attitude toward other employees and staff.
- Recognize own role in marketing of clinic services by developing positive relations with the public in general.
- Participates in the health center's performance improvement activities and performs duties in accordance with applicable standards.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Behavioral Health or the Executive Director.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
The Behavioral Health Specialist reports to, is supervised by, and is evaluated by the Clinic Manager and/or the Medical Director.
EVALUATION:
The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing, and will be carried out by the Medical Director. Evaluation includes the specific duties and responsibilities of the position description, plus employee attitudes and general working behavior. Formal evaluation will normally be performed annually, but may be initiated at other times by the employee or the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LMSW-ACP, LPC, PH.D. Psychologist) with at least 2 years of experience in a Mental Health setting.
- Thorough knowledge of medical record requirements; including familiarity with Diagnostic and Statistical Manual.
- Ability to establish rapport and relate to clients, families, community agencies and groups, and variety of service discipline.
- Familiarity with research based Psychotherapeutic Interventions.
- Staff assessed by Bi-lingual English/Spanish CMO as competent to interpret medical dialogue __ Yes __ No.(check one)

STATUS:
This is an FLSA Exempt position.
This is not an OSHA high-risk position.
This is an ADA negotiable position.
SALARY:
The salary for this position is negotiated between the individual and the Executive Director using the approved salary scale of the organization as a basis.
