Job Description
Qualifications:
Required qualifications: Current unrestricted certification as a phlebotomist or higher;
A minimum of two years recent clinical work experience as a phlebotomist in a phlebotomy lab
environment; Associate degree in healthcare related field and Minimum of one (1) year of
healthcare related teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Registered Nurse within the state of New Mexico from an accredited
institution of higher education, or Licensed Practical Nurse within the state of New Mexico from
an accredited institution of higher education, or CMA, RMA, or CCMA credentialed medical
assistant, or Credentialed Phlebotomy Technician. Must hold expert knowledge in medical lab
procedures, phlebotomy, human anatomy, infection control, research, & medical terminology.
Certified Blood borne Pathogens Instructor a plus. Certified Phlebotomy Technician preferred

Purpose and Scope:
The Phlebotomy Clinical Instructor assists in preparing students for clinical and assists in skill
development in the laboratory, as needed. This includes assisting to ensure student health
documents are sufficient to start the program. This professional oversees students in a variety
of health care settings. The instructor must have phlebotomy clinical experience, communicate
effectively, and be able to assess students objectively, and work as part of a team. The clinical
Instructor has obtained appropriate certification where applicable and has earned appropriate
education in the field of Phlebotomy or higher.
Under the general supervision of the Allied Health Department Chair, the successful applicant
will oversee, coordinate, and assess clinical rotations of Phlebotomy students. Teaching
assignments will include grading student OR case write-ups, communication to clinical partners
and preceptors, and reviewing weekly student evaluations from clinical sites. Additional duties
include but are not limited to: Identifying student deficiencies and communicating to other
Phlebotomy instructors their needs is required, having meetings via Zoom or in person with
Clinical Sites (as needed), staying abreast of industry trends and changes.
The successful candidate will be expected to assume adjunct phlebotomy duties and
responsibilities required of Allied Health faculty, including evening and weekend instruction if
needed. Anticipated workload is 8-12 hours per week, semesters will vary.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• This position will have full-time teaching responsibilities in the areas of
phlebotomy.
• The position includes the teaching of theory and phlebotomy, assisting with
curriculum development.
• Assume duties and responsibilities required of all faculty members including
evening and weekend instruction as needed to meet student needs
• Plans, designs, and provides clinical and/or laboratory instruction which reflect
an understanding of the program’s objectives and curriculum. Evaluates
student achievement of curricular and course objectives and learning outcomes
related to phlebotomy knowledge and practice.
• Participates in advising and guidance of the students.
• Hold office hours for the purpose of meeting with students to provide
individual instruction, guidance and remediation.
• May assist in curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation.
• May assist in the development, evaluation, and revision of student admission,
progression, retention and graduation policies within the policies of the
institution.
• Contributes to the program, department, and college activities and initiatives
including participating in program and department faculty meetings and serving on
committees and participating in university functions.
• May participates in faculty recruitment and interview activities.
• Other duties as assigned in response to a rapidly changing environment, including but
not limited to: developing collaborative partnerships with clinical sites, expanding clinical
sites, job placement, and certification exam preparation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to accomplish organization objectives by organizing and monitoring

• Proficiency in MS Office, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
• Established leadership skills including the ability to manage stakeholder groups;
ability to work collaboratively with multiple partners, including employers,
community colleges, government entities, policy decision makers, community-based
non-profit organizations, job seekers and other key stakeholders
• Excellent communication skills; keen appreciation for follow up, follow through, and
attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and without supervision
• Experience working in and with industry; good working knowledge of the region’s
high demand industries especially as it relates to the workforce needs of employers
design; knowledge of training systems
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including writing, editing and
making presentations to groups and individuals.
• Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
