New Hire Incentive
May be approved for up to 10% of a one-time New Hire Incentive pending approval (Not applicable for Per Diem positions).
Under direction, is responsible for providing professional direct or indirect nursing care to patients.
APPROXIMATE SALARY:
Registered Nurse I (RN I): $34.69 - $36.46 per hour
Registered Nurse II (RN II): $42.79 - $51.18 per hour
Per Diem Registered Nurse (PD RN): $35.70 per hour
Per Diem Registered Nurse II (PD RN II): $42.32 - $55.85 per hour
CERTIFICATION PAY: Incumbents in this classification are eligible for certification pay at a rate of $0.813 per hour based on his or her scheduled work week hours and not to exceed the scheduled work week hours for each qualified certification possessed up to a maximum of five (5) certifications.
EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for educational incentive. This incentive may be 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% for incumbents in eligible positions based on completion of an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree that is not required for the classification.
BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for bilingual incentive depending on the applicable memorandum of agreement and the needs of the department. In order to qualify for this incentive, incumbents in eligible positions must take and pass the applicable bilingual fluency examination.
AGENCY/DEPARTMENT: Health Care Agency
RN I, RN II, PD RN, and PD RN II are represented by the California Nurses' Association (CNA) and are eligible for overtime compensation.
NOTE: Salary placement will be determined according to the current CNA memorandum of agreement.
The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Regular (including Temporary and Fixed-Term), Intermittent, and Extra Help vacancies within the Health Care Agency.
NOTE: If appointed at the lower level, incumbents may be promoted to the higher level without further examination upon meeting the minimum requirements, demonstrating satisfactory performance, and in accordance with the business needs of the department.
Examples Of Duties
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Uses the full scope of the Nurse Practice Act to assess, plan, organize, and provide nursing care to assigned patients;
- Follows prescribed doctors' orders concerning treatments and medications;
- Documents patient treatment and dispensing; makes patient observations; records and reports on all pertinent information, including changes in patient condition and general progress;
- Provides follow-through on judgment within the scope of accepted nursing practice;
- Assists doctors in examination and treatment;
- Provides unit organization and is responsible for completion of all delegated and indicated nursing duties by the end of the assigned shift;
- Assists in training, supervision and evaluation of new and ancillary personnel;
- Maintains current knowledge of nursing care developments and therapeutic measures; attends department in-services and staff development programs;
- In Ambulatory Medicine areas, provides physician assistance and patient care as indicated and required;
- May participate in quality assurance/utilization review or other non-direct patient care nursing assignments; and
- Performs other related duties as required.
Typical Qualifications
These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
RN I & PD RN
Requires no experience.
RN II & PD RN II - VCMC & SP Hospital
Requires six (6) months of recent full-time acute care registered nursing experience in an acute hospital or equivalent setting, or completion of the Ventura County Medical Center competency requirements* as evaluated and approved by the Chief Nursing Executive.
RN II & PD RN II - Ambulatory Care & Public Health only
Requires six (6) months of recent full-time equivalent registered nursing experience in a public or private health care setting.
*These competency requirements are in conformance with the California Board of Registered Nurses nursing requirements.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess and maintain a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California, or Registered Nurse licensure in another state with California licensure pending.
Must have a current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification by first day of employment.
Successful completion of the Health Care Agency Pharmacology examination within three (3) months of employment is mandatory for assignments within the Health Care Agency.
Depending upon area of assignment, additional specialty experience and/or certification(s) may be required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
This position may be subject to State Health Officer Orders regarding vaccine verification and/or testing. These requirements are a condition of employment. Depending on assignment and work location(s), successful candidates for this position will be required to submit proof of vaccination and/or booster against COVID-19 or request an exemption for qualifying medical or religious reasons during the onboarding process.
